EDWARD J. BOYD SR. – of Woburn, died peacefully, August 7th at the age of sixty-one, after a short illness, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 40 years to the late Sharon A. (Doherty) Boyd.
Born in Brighton and raised in North Woburn, Ed was a son of Joan (Regan) Boyd of Woburn and the late Owen Boyd. He completed his education at Woburn High School, where he crossed paths with his soulmate and love of his life, Sharon Doherty. Their journey began and in 1983 when they married; shortly thereafter starting and raising their family in Woburn.
Ed demonstrated an exceptional work ethic, dedicating himself to hard work and making sacrifices for his family, which he passed on to his sons. His deepest love was for his family. He was a devoted father, supporting his children in all they set their minds to. Whether it be golf matches, hockey or football games, Ed loved watching his boys do what they loved. He passed his love of sports onto his children. In particular, he thoroughly enjoyed watching WWE and Patriots games with them. The front, and back, door was always open, with friends and family always coming and going to watch with him. Sunday dinners, particularly during football season, were the most cherished moments of his week.
Ed enjoyed his annual family trips to Hampton Beach. His first thing he would do was to lather himself in tanning oil and sit on the beach and burn. Trips down to the Funarama arcade with the boys and wiffle ball games in the backyard were things he always looked forward to.
His grandchildren brought immense joy to his life, and he took pleasure in watching them grow. Ed was the most proud to become a grandfather, referred to as Pa. He was the best napping spot when they were all babies. He hated missing Brayden’s t-ball or soccer games, but of course he made it to his first wrestling tournament. Pa was so proud whenever Brayden made any accomplishment and always told him he could do anything he set his mind to. Bryson loved to torture Pa (and Pa loved to egg Bryson on); they were two peas in a pod. When Bryson was real small, where ever Pa was there was Bryson, most of the time sitting on the arm of Pa’s chair with him. Ed always said only boys allowed in the family, until Sawyer Belle came along. She had him wrapped around her tiny fingers from the second she was born. She was Pa’s little princess.
Ed looked forward to his Friday nights out with his best friend Al. Sometimes going out Friday, Saturday and Sundays, what they liked to call their “trifecta” weekends.
Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed very much, but thankfully his memory will live on forever.
