The forms are not heat proof. Soldering on the styrofoam form works because the edge of the flat glass parts are held above the form and the molten solder does not touch the form. MagicStrips provide additional heat protection for the form from the heat of solder tacks. The solder tacks are flattened out (tinning) and the glass section or lamp is removed . After all the lamp sections are completed, they are removed from the form, attached together, and the seams completed inside and out.
Check to see that each foiled piece of glass is properly pinned
in place.
Apply the flux sparingly with a small brush by touching the foil
only at the spot where the solder tack is to be placed. [Fig.K];
flux must be applied to clean the copper foil. This allows the
solder to stick and hold the foiled glass pieces together. Use
a 60 to 100 watt hot soldering iron with a pointed tip. Attach
each piece to every other piece with small mounds of molten solder.
[Fig. L] Remove most of the pins. If working on a sectional form
do not remove bottom row of pins this assures the identical
height of each glass section.
The solder tacks can be removed to adjust the glass parts if desired.
As work progresses wipe the surface with a wet cloth or sponge
to cool and clean. [Fig. N]

[Fig. M] Tinning: apply a thin coat of solder over the foil or vase cap |
Remove most of the pins and apply flux sparingly. With a hot soldering
iron flatten out the solder tacks and tin all the exposed copper
foil with a flat seam. [Fig. M]
DO NOT attempt to fill and build [bead up] seams on the form.
The lamp does not have to be level to tin and make flat seams.
Burnish with a damp cloth to cool and clean. [Fig. N]
Tip: If you are making a FullForm shade that turns in at
the bottom you must remove the shade in two parts. We suggest
separating C16 and CF18 FullForm shades as illustrated.
[Fig. O] Mark and carefully remove the upper and lower parts of
the lamp shade from the form. Attach the rigid glass ring to the
bottom of the shade.

Full form construction only Carefully remove the lamp
shade in either one piece or in two pieces if your lamp shade
curves in at the bottom.
Sectional construction only Carefully remove, clean, and
store the first glass section. Complete all the glass sections
to this point. After cleaning each glass section, store by cradling
in styrofoam peanuts or a similar material. Resist the temptation
to handle them.
